I am very excited that Wendy Peterson is coming to Lancaster to teach Intarsia! Wendy is the founder of YarnSub.com and editor of the Yarn Geeks newsletter, who started knitting intarsia in childhood and hasn't finished with it yet!
Why learn to knit intarsia?
Intarsia takes colour work beyond repeating patterns and opens up design options that aren't available with any other technique. It allows you to be endlessly creative with your knitting, whether you want to add a picture to a bag, colour blocks to a cowl, or an initial to the front of a child's sweater.
Techniques that we'll cover:
- How to read an intarsia pattern chart.
- How to manage multiple colours – yarn preparation and avoiding tangles.
- The intarsia cast-on – start colours at the cast-on edge.
- How to lock yarn at the colour change – the one simple rule you need.
- How to keep the edges of the colour blocks neat.
- How to join a new colour.
- How to weave in ends as you work.
- How to cast off in the colour pattern.
Experience required:
You need to be confident with knit, purl and casting on/off. No other specific experience is necessary.
What you'll receive in the class:
*A yarn kit and a chart for the swatch that we'll be making in the class.
*Comprehensive printed photo tutorials of the techniques.
*A copy of 'Alphabet & Diamonds', a drawstring bag pattern.
*Tea, coffee and snacks
